On May 22, 2022 after worship we will share a taco lunch together to support the trip our young people will be making this July to Smith River, California with Sierra Service Project. There are no tickets for this lunch, but a free will offering will be taken.
Check out more information about Sierra Service Project in Smith River here.
Livestream from May 8, 2022
During our Mother’s Day worship we heard what the United Methodist Social Principles say about abortion and talked about autonomy and agency and the freedom to follow Jesus. We sang and prayed and shared a story about families, too.
Native American Ministries Special Offering
Throughout the year United Methodists recognize six special Sundays and receive offerings to support the mission and ministry of the church around the world.
This month we will celebrate Native American Ministries Sunday on May 15th. On this day we remember the gifts and contributions made by Native Americans to our society and in our communities. With more than 20,000 Native Americans within the denomination, this Special Sunday helps to ensure that Native American United Methodist leaders are recognized and to celebrate their special voice in The United Methodist Church. The offering we receive in honor of this day is used to develop and strengthen Native American ministries in the annual conferences, and Native American rural, urban, reservation ministries and communities. It also provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist schools of theology. Half of the donations collected remain within the Annual Conference to provide hope to children and youth, hope for a brighter future in impoverished communities and a voice to those who have felt voiceless for years.
Donations can be made during the Sunday morning worship service or online — here
What’s Happening in the United Methodist Church?
A new denomination called the Global Methodist Church broke away from the United Methodist Church yesterday.
On our Facebook page we’ve shared a couple of articles/links that help explain what’s going on. There’s also a piece by Hebrew Bible Scholar Walter Brueggemann about scarcity and abundance.
To follow what’s going on in the United Methodist Church check out umc.org (this will also share some of our important mission work) and Hacking Christianity.
Earth Day is Everyday
This was one of those slogans we heard a lot a few (more than a few?) years back.
Through the City Nature Challenge we’re invited to observe and celebrate the beautiful world around us right in our own neighborhoods.
Check out what’s happening around the world this weekend (April 29-May 2).
