United Methodist Church Organization
The United Methodist Church has churches and missions throughout the world. Its main website is www.umc.org.
GBGM - the General Board of Global Ministries
This branch of the UMC supervises its national and international missions and UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, which responds to large scale disasters. GBGM also promotes ongoing missions like scholarship funds and special events like Worldwide Communion Sunday. When a large disaster occurs, UMCOR sends aid quickly and creates an Advance, a call to local churches for special donations. All donations go to the target project. http://new.gbgm-umc.org/give/
General Conference.
This international group meets each 4 years, with representatives from all Regional Conferences throughout the world. The next General Conference will be held May 10-20, 2016 in Portland, Oregon.
Regional Conferences. These are regional organizations, whose members are the UM churches in a particular region.
California Nevada Conference, the regional conference to which WRUMC belongs. The churches in a regional conference are organized into smaller groups called Districts.
El Camino Real District - the group of UMC churches all around the San Francisco Bay, from Novato to Monterey. These are subdivided into Circuits, and WRUMC's Circuit is the group of 12 churches from South San Francisco through Redwood City.
Each regional Conference holds an annual meeting each year called "Annual Conference", with representatives from all churches in that regional Conference. Pastoral appointments are announced at these meetings.
